U.S. President DJ Trump Promises?
Within his term the U.S. will reach for the stars again, just like John F. Kennedy did in the 1960's? Then we now know was a hit and miss affair, hopefully this time science will be applied with quality engineering and safety in mind?
Why do humans want to go the stars?
Finding life is one reason the other is the adventure and self-achievement of what we can do? But there is a third reason and that is of mining rare minerals and other new found properties, which will be of great value back here on Earth.
Have we got the technology to send people to a base on the Moon?
Conditions would be similar to the Antarctica snow bases, but oxygen supplies would be an issue on the other hand a Mars mission already tested in Russia on a ground station lead to several of the crew suffering some serious psychological issues.
The answer to Mars is that we will need to get familiar with living on the Moon first, as with the years of the various Space stations up to the International ISS?

Bob Sleigh. Part-One.
A very happy Christmas?
Father Christmas is now preparing his sacks of goodies for all the good children, before setting off next week to do his high speed 24 hour delivery?
The traditional image of Father Christmas is him riding or flying on a sleigh pulled by reindeer and one known to us as Rudolf with his bright glowing red nose!
From this information we gather that this story comes from central Europe, Austria, Germany and Switzerland? These are the nations where there always has been a need for this type of winter transport, but there are many takes on the word that we get from the old Dutch meaning to slide along?
Sleds, sledges and sleigh's could be pulled either by dogs, horses or reindeer and was based on the toboggan being developed into a carriage.
Jingle bells as a song comes from an old Russian folk tale of Father frost delivering presents with the bells of his sled ringing out the joy of the season.

Snow Patrol. Part-Two.
The elusive white Stuff.
This year the Britain, Ireland and Northern Europe are experiencing some of the warmest winter temperatures on record. But in the southern-hemisphere New Zealand and Antarctica, the warmest also for their summer.
Santa must of forgot something this year?
Despite the lack of snow here, America and Canada are having severe storms and drifting and even their specialised machines cannot operate because of the heigth of the drifts. Despite many clever designs that are available, there are just times when non of them can get out and do their thing.
Many modern snow ploughs now, do much more than shovel snow, they can heat the tracks, sand, de-ice and brush a path through. Italy-Switzerland employ such trains daily to keep their mountain railways open. Some of these machines have been adapted to work on air crafts, allowing them to continue to operate in snow and ice conditions.

Vehicle Adaptions.
There is money in snow, one has only to ask the Swiss, French and Austrians!
Many vehicles have been adapted to work in snowy conditions, while many more have been specifically designed to operate all the time. Caterpillar tracks have the great advantage over the wheel in moving through snow and ice, but there is much more to this area than one might think!
Many vehicles can be fitted with snow ploughs and they have a limited use in clearing roads to rails, but the problems only start when the snow freezes and is extremely difficult to shift. Many early types started life as military vehicles (British Army Viking) and are now standard civilian vehicles used in a huge variety of ways from utility to scientific research.
Skies work great, when the surface is flat and smooth with many aircraft and helicopters being capable of operations in high mountains and winter flying conditions. Kamov Ka-32

It's Christmas. Part-Two.
Ice Vehicles.
There is a whole plethora of tracked, sled and four plus wheeled drive vehicles across snowy world to come with both permanent snow and winter conditions. But it amazes me that still the U.K. is not able or wants to be able to operate normally in snow.
Back in the 1970's British Rail always excused its stock problem delays with its the leaves on the line or I once hear on a train 'its the BR pork pies.'
It is claimed by many experts that snow varies from country to country and that is why it's not worth investing here in the complex machinery needed. Airlines and rail enjoy making money out of the traveller and it would seem sensible to not cause them delays.

It's Christmas. Part-One.
Sleds.
Father Christmas is on his way to bring good kids their presents this season. There are many countries still using animal powered sleds for the Christmas novelty.
But it is he motorised sled business, which is continuing to boom in Alaska, Canada, Finland, Greenland and Russia. This is were they are really the only viable way to get from A-Z.
The sled is one of the most interesting means of movement, apart from the wheel and track. Many machines, including aircraft and helicopters are fitted with sleds to cope with icy conditions.
